After a disappointing loss against No. 31 Cal, 195.950 to 194.425, the Arizona gymnastics team has been back in the gym in hopes to improve in its next meet against No. 20 Stanford on Sunday, Feb. 11, at noon.
The final score against Cal was the lowest score the GymCats have posted this season, and Arizona head coach John Court was not happy about the outcome.
“It was a disappointing day,” said Court in an interview with Arizona Athletics. “We have to do better, not just on one event, but on all events. This week, we’re going to go into the gym and try and improve from today’s mistakes.”

During the meet against the Cardinal, the Wildcats will honor the three seniors Kennady Schneider, Madison Cindric and Victoria Ortiz. The three of them have been a powerful trio since stepping onto the floor in McKale Center and have accomplished many highs throughout the years.
The Cardinal coming to McKale Center also means welcoming back former head coach Tabitha Yim, who left Arizona for the coaching position at Stanford. Yim brings No. 2 all-around competitor Elizabeth Price, who holds a high of 39.775. Price is currently ranked No. 1 on the uneven bars with a solid 10.000.
Stanford recently earned its first win of the season against UC Davis, San Jose State and Seattle Pacific but have been unable to defeat their Pac-12 competitors including Arizona State and Oregon State.
GymCat seniors
Kennady Schneider:
Fans flood into McKale Center to watch Schneider and her floor routines, which she choreographs herself.
During her sophomore year, Schneider competed in all 12 meets and earned herself a career high of 9.900 on floor. Going into her junior year, there was nothing by high numbers as she earned a new career high on floor of 9.925. Schneider was awarded Pac-12 All-Conference on the floor, where she is ranked No. 8 in the conference.
Schneider is majoring in fine arts with an emphasis on photography and a minor in art history.
Madison Cindric:
Cindric is one of Arizona’s all-around competitors and has achieved new season and career highs during her final season as a GymCat. During the meet against Utah, Cindric posted new career highs on the floor (9.875) and all-around (39.400).
Competing in every meet her first two years, Cindric was able to earn Scholastic All-American and a Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team during her sophomore year. During her junior year, she ended up with a foot injury that left her out for five consecutive weeks, but she was able to come back and compete all-around in the meet against BYU.
Cindric is majoring in sociology with a minor in sports management in hopes to one day be a sports administrator.
Victoria Ortiz:
Ortiz has been become a strong competitor on the balance beam and the uneven bars this season, but she has been unable to grab hold of high scores. Ortiz started off as anchor on the uneven bars her freshman year, but during her sophomore year, she didn’t see the floor for the first three meets.
During her junior year, Ortiz earned a career high of 9.950 on bars, leaving her tied for the second highest bars score in Arizona gymnastics history. Ortiz was awarded Pac-12 Second Team All-Conference for the uneven bars her junior year.
Ortiz is majoring in criminal justice with a minor in psychology in hopes to one day work for the FBI.
