Police arrested a man for drinking in public near the intersection of North Campbell Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard at 11:32 p.m. Monday.

Police on patrol in the area saw the man sitting on a cement wall on the southwest corner of the intersection drinking something out of a large glass container. The man noticed the patrol car, immediately placed a 40-ounce bottle of Steel Reserve on the ground and began to walk away.

An officer told the man he saw him drinking out of the bottle.

“”That’s not my beer,”” the man said, according to reports.

There was a strong odor of intoxicants coming from the man’s breath. The officer picked up the bottle and told the man that he saw him drinking from it. “”So what?”” the man said, according to reports.

The officer cited and released the man at the scene, then emptied and disposed of the bottle.

Five students were diverted to the Dean of Students Office for marijuana-related offenses in Coconino Residence Hall, 1003 N. Olive Road, at 11:34 p.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived on the second floor, they could smell marijuana coming from a room. They knocked on the door, and it opened. Four men were visible inside the room, two of whom were residents.

The officer asked one of the men for identification, and he said he did not have any on him. He gave the officers a name, but a records check showed the name was false. The officer confronted the man, and he revealed his true identity. He said he lied because he did not want to get in trouble for smoking marijuana in the room. The man was diverted for use of marijuana and false reporting to an officer.

The officer then spoke with one of the residents. He was diverted for marijuana use.

The residents consented to a room search, and police found another man hiding in the closet. The man said he intended to smoke marijuana with the men but did not because the officers arrived before he could. He decided to hide in the closet because he did not want to get into trouble. He was diverted for only a UA Code of Conduct violation, as police did not think that he had smoked marijuana.

Another officer talked to a fourth man, who admitted to smoking marijuana. The man emptied his pockets; inside an eyeglass case was a plastic bag that contained about 2.3 grams of marijuana and a lighter. He was diverted for use and possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The fifth man, the other resident, told officers he did not smoke any marijuana. He allowed the others to smoke in the room because he had homework to finish and did not want to tell on his friends and roommate. He did not show signs of marijuana usage, so he was diverted for a Code of Conduct violation.

A woman was arrested for underage drinking early Sunday morning.

Police responded to the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house, 1801 E. First St., after hearing a loud commotion across the street at the University of Arizona Police Department station, 1852 E. First St. When officers arrived, a large group of men and women went back inside the house, and the fraternity’s president came out to talk to police. He told officers there was an unknown woman who was “”very sick”” but that she had already been picked up in a cab.

The officers heard voices inside the house talk about “”that girl”” and that she was “”lying on the ground”” somewhere inside, according to reports. The officers said they needed to go inside to make sure she was fine. The president stepped inside the gate and would not answer the officers when they asked to go inside the house. The officers then went past the gate and into the house, following the president to a bathroom.

They knocked on the door, and a man answered. He showed them the woman, whose head was more than halfway in the bowl of the toilet. The president insisted that “”she wasn’t drinking in the house,”” according to reports. The woman was breathing shallowly and talking very slowly and incoherently.

Officers carried the woman outside, and she told officers that she had been drinking at a number of places that included the fraternity house. The officers asked the president why no one called 911 earlier, and he didn’t respond. The Tucson Fire Department arrived and transported her to University Medical Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., where the officers interviewed her hours later.

The woman told the officers that she had begun drinking the previous night at home, had one mixed drink at a bar and multiple shots and drinks at the fraternity house.

The woman also had an outstanding warrant for failure to comply with a court order. She was handcuffed and transported to Pima County Jail, where she was booked.
