Arizona and ASU fans know the Territorial Cup Series all too well. The series yields rivalry trophy that has existed since 1899, with the pride of the entire state of Arizona resting in the hands of the winner.

But this season is not going the Wildcats’ way so far. ASU has defeated Arizona in every major Division Isport this season, taking a commanding lead in the competition 3.5-0.

Yup, you read that right. Arizona has earned zero points in the Territorial Cup thus far.

The latest downfall of Arizona came at the hands of ASU soccer in a detrimental defeat 4-1 in Tucson. It was a game in which many expected the Wildcats to win, but ASU held a majority lead for the entire game.

ASU has also earned points in cross country and volleyball. Arizona, the winner of the Territorial Cup last year, will have to do a lot of catching up in the coming months if the Wildcats want to escape the hold of the Sun Devils.

In a few weeks, when Arizona football plays ASU in Tempe, the winner very well could decide bowl eligibility for both teams. Had someone said that at the beginning of the season they probably would have been called crazy. This is not so, as ASU has gone from potential CFB Playoff winner to a measly 4-5 overall record, while the UA has been blasted by injuries at pretty much every single position.

Both the UA and ASU have struggled this season in the Pac-12 South division. The upcoming Nov. 21 game will come just under one year after the UA trumped ASU at home.

The oldest rivalry trophy in college football is the Territorial Cup trophy, which Arizona currently holds. Arizona leads the series 48-39-1, looking to make it 49.

In what could very well be a cat and mouse chase for the rest of the season, the UA better start getting some points on the board or the Territorial Cup will be hoisted by the Sun Devils this year.
