Alarming comments

A University of Arizona Police Department officer went to Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday in response to a possible threat. The officer met with the community director who reported someone had overheard a resident make alarming comments to a friend.The resident had been walking with a friend near Fourth Street and Highland Avenue on Nov. 6., and said, “If this move situation doesn’t get figured out soon, I’m going to go Virginia Tech on some people.”

The resident had been having problems with people in the hall, the community director said, and had requested a room reassignment. The man had been harassed by other residents who had repeatedly placed bags of garbage in front of his room and urinated on his door. The officer met with the man in his room. The man explained he was just frustrated with the situation and did not mean what he said. The man allowed the officer to search his room. No weapons or other items to indicate the man intended to go through with what he said were found. A Code of Conduct form was filled out for the man and he was referred to the Dean of Students Office.

Smashed windows, busted tunes

A UAPD officer went to a parking lot on Helen Street around 3 p.m. on Wednesday in reference to a theft. The officer met with a man who reported that the driver’s side window of his car had been broken. The man said a pair of work gloves had been stolen from the car and his JVC stereo was broken. He said he thought the suspect had tried to pry the stereo out of the car, but was unsuccessful. The man estimated the value of replacing the window and having it tinted would cost around $150. The stereo was worth $100 and the gloves were about $10, he said. The man said he parks in the same lot every day and this is the first time anything had happened to his car. The officer checked the area and found no evidence or any other damaged cars. The man was given victim’s rights forms.

Trapped cat

UAPD officers went to Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall at 8 p.m. on Wednesday because of a cat that was stuck in a cement enclosure on the side of the building. The officers found the cat uninjured, but unable to free itself from the tight space. With the help of a resident assistant, the officers lifted the cat out of the enclosure using a cardboard box. Once it was free, the cat ran south.

Clear liquid, not so clear conscience

A UAPD officer went to the ZonaZoo entrance of McKale Center at 8 p.m. on Wednesday in response to an intoxicated man. An event staff member had flagged down Tucson Police Department officers who were providing extra security at the basketball game. The staff member said the man had attempted to bring a plastic water bottle full of a clear, unknown alcohol into the center. The man appeared to be intoxicated and refused to answer the event staff member’s questions. The man became angry and called the staff member a faggot. The officer searched the man’s wallet and found two Texas driver’s licenses for the man, one with the birth year listed as 1989. The man’s actual year of birth is 1992. The man was arrested on charges of minor in possession of alcohol and possession of a fictitious driver’s license. He was transported and booked into Pima County Jail.
