Arizona track and field sent a small group to compete in the UW Invitational in Seattle, but ended up making meet history with Lawi Lalang setting a meet record in the 3,000-meter race.
Lalang, a senior, won the men’s 3,000-meter race invitational section with a time of 7:44.20. Besides completing a meet record, this time is also No. 1 in the country this year.
Lalang is the defending NCAA Champion in the event, and this time marks the second-fastest 3K in his career. His personal-best time of 7:42.79 is also the school record.
Freshman Maria Larsson earned a 12th-place finish in her Arizona debut on the track in the women’s 3K invitational, clocking 9:23.21. Junior Stephanie Bulder clocked a time of 9:36.86, a personal-best. Bulder took 16th place overall in the 3,000-meter race.
In the women’s mile invitational section, senior Meg Bellino clocked a time of 2:10.86 in the 800-meter run to win 12th place in the invitational section. Junior Kate Penney earned an 18th-place finish overall by clocking a time of 4:52.92.
On the men’s side, junior Sam Macaluso clocked a personal best of 4:05.50 in running the mile; he took 13th place. Freshman Matthew Beer’s time of 4:14.37 earned him a 21st-place finish. In the open 800-meter run, senior Taylor Cole clocked a personal-best time of 2:19.92, good for 21st place.
On Friday night, senior Germe Poston won third place in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 24.93. On Saturday, Poston clocked a time of 7.64 in the preliminary round of the 60-meter dash. That time earned her fifth overall and qualified Poston for the final. With a time of 7.66, Poston took seventh place in the final.
Junior Daniel Whitham had a toss of 48-9.5 (14.87m), which earned him a 17th-place finish.
