Arizona vs. ASU – football

The Arizona football team has certainly struggled in this game, regardless of position or rank of either team. This season the Wildcats are 10-point favorites, but the Sun Devils are certainly not a team to sleep on – even though “”Arizona will win”” has been a common theme. With quarterback Willie Tuitama, receiver Mike Thomas, and linebacker Ronnie Palmerÿ- all seniors – playing their final game at home, I just can’t see how an ASU team that struggles so immensely on offense can knock off the Wildcats.

As I was scrolling through the plethora of teams available to choose from on NCAA Football 09, I stumbled across Arizona State. Rudy Carpenter in a Dennis Erickson offense seemed like fun and another sure victory (play against me, I dare you.) Then I saw their preseason ranking: No. 14. Really? No. 14? As Arrested Development’s Gob Bluth says, “”Come on!”” This is a no-brainer.

After a long season, the Duel in the Desert makes its return and the Wildcats will try to bring the Territorial Cup back to Tucson once more. UA hasn’t won this rivalry game since 2004 but things are looking good this year. With a 6-5 record and a bowl game on the calendar for the first time in a decade, Arizona shouldn’t have much of a problem handling the Sun Devils, which have struggled immensely this season.

Arizona at Texas A&M – men’s basketball

The talk around Tucson is this season is going to be extremely painful for the Arizona basketball team, and surely there have been some hints of early struggles with the Wildcats when they trailed some not-so-stellar teams in the second half. With its first real opponent looming on the schedule, Arizona’s true colors will certainly be exposed, and I don’t think it is going to be pretty. Saddle up Wildcat fans, this basketball season could be one to forget.

Texas A&M is a solid program and is the alma mater to Acie Law IV, my favorite college basketball player ever. They are off to a solid start this season and are dominant on the offensive and defensive glass. Arizona is still finding its way, but is making positive strides. The game takes place in College Station, notorious for their “”12th Man”” in football. But do they have a “”6th Man”” in basketball? Nope.

While neither team is ranked, it should be an excited battle that will come down to the wire. Forward Chase Budinger is continuing to prove why he will be a successful NBA player in the future with an impressive average of 21 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Down in the paint is forward Jordan Hill, who is having one of his best seasons yet averaging 17 points and a stunning 13 rebounds per game. When you add two and two to together, you have a team built to win.
