Hot pursuit for a hot spot
A non-UA affiliated man was arrested for second degree criminal trespassing and theft by control on Sept. 16, at 12:55 a.m., after an officer from the University of Arizona Police Department saw the man run a stop sign on a bicycle.
When the officer flashed his emergency lights, the man sped up to avoid the officer. The officer could no longer see where the man went to so he went searching on foot.
The man was found near the Student Union Memorial Center where he had tried to hide his bicycle. As the officer approached, the man once again left quickly on his bicycle.
Two other UAPD officers finally stopped the man as he was riding down a pathway on campus.
Officers found that the man was banned from campus for six months. He said he knew he couldn’t be on campus, but he and his girlfriend often use the UA Wi-Fi.
The officers searched the man’s belongings and found a credit card belonging to someone else. The man said he found it an hour earlier and that it was still valid. He said he wasn’t sure why he had kept it instead of giving it to police.
The man was banned from campus for a year for violating his initial order, cited for violation of prohibited practices and failure to stop at a stop sign.
He was taken to Pima County Jail, and booked into custody.
Mystery vehicle
An abandoned car was towed on Sept. 17 at 10:57 p.m. for creating a traffic hazard on the road near the UA.
A UAPD officer pulled up behind a car that had emergency lights flashing and was parked on the side of a curb but was partially blocking a lane on the road. As the officer walked up to the car, he noticed there was no driver or passengers.
Along the side of the car were advertisements for a taxi company. The officer called the taxi’s number and discovered that particular car was no longer registered as a working cab for their company.
The vehicle was towed and stored at the tower’s storage lot for safekeeping.
Grounded and booked
A man near the UA was arrested on Sept. 16 at 1:55 p.m. for a misdemeanor warrant from the Tucson Police Department for assault.

He was taken to Pima County Jail where he was booked for his warrant.
