Vito earns VP post

The Arizona Board of Regents voted unanimously to appoint Melissa M. Vito as vice president for student affairs Friday.

Vito will be responsible for overseeing the codes of conduct and academic integrity, and the UA Campus Emergency Response Team, as well as leadership for students, ABOR documents stated.

Prior to her appointment, Vito served as vice provost for student affairs and as the dean of students.

Report studies universities’ tech needs

A report outlining possible collaborations on information technology among the UA, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University was presented to ABOR yesterday, detailing areas of technology and software purchasing and implementation.

Moran Technology Consulting performed an analysis of the three universities’ current and projected information technologies and possible future needs. Twelve areas of possible cooperation were identified, and recommendations were presented to ABOR.

Regents review grant-funded projects

The Learner-Centered Education Team presented the projects funded by a regents-approved grant program yesterday.

Thirteen projects from all three Arizona universities were approved for funding during the 2007-2009 grant period. Three of those projects were from the UA, ABOR documents stated.

The Regents Innovation Fund provides $500,000 each year for the competitive grants, according to documents the LCE Team provided.

The grant program is designed to help faculty improve the classes they teach and create more cost-efficient teaching methods.

The UA could cut instruction costs by $590,300 due to more efficient teaching methods developed by the grant program, according to an overview of programs the LCE Team provided.
