For the first time since the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) was established in 1995, the UA women’s cross country team has been ranked at No. 1.
The women went into the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational this past Saturday ranked No. 3 in the nation. The Wildcat women went up against some of the nation’s top-ranked schools, including then-No. 1 Providence. The UA took first place at the invitational this year with a total of 117 points. The past two years, the Wildcats took third place.
Running this past weekend for the UA were sophomore Kayla Beattie, who led the first-place team, freshman Maria Larsson, junior Nicci Corbin, senior Elvin Kibet and junior Hanna Peterson.
The Wildcat women have now won all four of their races this season.
The cross country program will be back in action at the Pac-12 Championships on Nov. 2 in Boulder, Colo. In 2012, the women’s team finished as runner-up. The women’s program will be looking to earn its first-ever conference championship, according to this week’s press release.
