The Arizona football team traveled to the University of Washington on Saturday, Oct. 15. The game was back and forth the whole time, but the Washington Huskies seemed to run away with it late in the fourth quarter to win by a score of 49-39.
The Huskies quickly struck first after stopping Arizona on their first drive. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed a crucial 23-yard touchdown pass to Jalen McMillan for the Huskies to strike first and take control of the momentum.
Arizona would respond right away with a deep touchdown pass to 5-star recruit Tetairoa McMillan to tie it up at seven. McMillan, the wide receiver, seemed to confuse the Washington defense with a beautiful out route to the right. The Washington defense didn’t know who had the ball until McMillan was already in the end zone.
The game went back and forth constantly until early in the fourth quarter when the University of Washington extended their lead to 18 with a 48-yard touchdown pass to Rome Odunze to make the score 42-24.
The Wildcat offense turned it around about halfway through the fourth quarter. It seemed like the Huskies were running away with it until 15 unanswered points from the Arizona offense.
A Wildcat tight end scored the first touchdown in the comeback attempt after a 20-yard reception thrown from de Laura followed by a 26-yard touchdown completion to McMillan to make Washington lead only 3 points.
The Huskies quickly felt the heat and responded to the one-score lead with a 19-yard rushing touchdown from running back Cameron Davis to make the score 49-39 Washington.
Following this, the Wildcats drove down the field, getting to the 12-yard line when de Laura was sacked for a loss of 12 yards, making it 3rd and 22 with just over a minute remaining in the fourth. Following this, the Arizona offense would turn the ball over on downs, giving the Huskies position on the ARIZ12. The Huskies would take a knee to hold the lead. The final score stayed at 49-39 for the Washington victory.
The Arizona football team will hope to get their record back to even with a win next week at home against USC on Oct. 22 in Tucson.
