Arizona men’s golf team followed a good first day of golf on Monday with another strong performance Tuesday to finish tied for second at the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic.
The second-place finish gave the team its third top-five finish of the spring. Minnesota took first place with a team score of 836 and going four under par. The UA and UC Santa Barbara tied for second and finished with a score of 837 and three under par.
The individual champion of the Del Walker Intercollegiate was Long Beach State’s Kevin Lee who finished with a score of 202 and eight under par.
Individually, senior Erik Oja led the Wildcats, finishing in fifth place with a score of 203, which was three under par.
Next was junior Alex McMahon who finished in seventh place after scoring a 208 and was two under par.
Senior Benson Liu rounded out the top ten with a score of 209, which was one under par. Sophomore Kolton Lapa shot 213, and junior Brenden Redfern scored 215.
The men will be back in action at the National Invitational Tournament, which will take place in Tucson from March 14-16.
Women take fourth at Bruin Wave
Arizona women’s golf finished fourth at the Bruin Wave Invitational.
The tournament took place at the El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, Calif. and featured some of the best teams in the nation.
No. 1 USC took first in the tournament finishing one under par with a score of 863. No. 17 Pepperdine earned a runner-up finish with 876, No. 2 UCLA was third with 886 and No. 11 UA took fourth with score of 899.
The individual champion was USC’s Kyung Kim who finished three under par with a score of 213.
Sophomore Lindsey Weaver was the UA’s top individual performer. She finished in eighth place, and was two over par with a score of 218. This was Weaver’s third top-10 finish of the season.
Sophomore Kendall Prince was next for the UA tied for 23rd with a score of 228. She was followed by freshman Wanasa Zhou was tied for 26th place with a score of 229. Freshman Jessica Vasilic finished with a score of 232, and Andrea Vilarasau shot a 234.
The women will be in action again at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Golf Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., from March 14-16.
