Arizona basketball picked up another 2012 recruit when power forward Brandon Ashley announced Monday he would commit to head coach Sean Miller and the Wildcats.
“I’m ready to commit to Arizona,” Ashley told ESPN.com. “After all the time thinking about it and getting to know Coach Miller and having great teammates, I knew it was the right choice for me.”
Ashley, who will finish his high school career at Findlay Prep in Nevada after transferring from Northern California’s Bishop O’Dowd, chose Arizona over offers from Kentucky, Oregon and UCLA.
ESPN.com ranks Ashley as the No. 4 ESPNU 100 player and as the No. 2 power forward in the country.
The 6-foot-8, 215-pound power forward joins ESPNU 100 No. 36 Gabe York and No. 9 Grant Jerrett as the Wildcats’ 2012 commits.
According to ESPN’s Dave Telep, Ashley’s commitment pushes the Wildcats ahead of Indiana for top 2012 recruiting class in the nation. Ashley told ESPN.com that Miller showed interest early and often.
“Coach Miller showed up to just about every AAU game, open gym or high school game,” said Ashley. “ He showed he was dedicated.”
