Police were dispatched to Navajo Residence Hall, 1557 E. Sixth St., on a report of a strong odor of marijuana coming from the second floor at 8:37 p.m. Sept. 9.

When the police arrived at the dorm they immediately knocked on the door of the room in question and heard male voices talking for about 30 seconds followed by a loud crash coming from inside. Three men came to the door, and once the door was opened the room smelled strongly of marijuana, according to the police report.

Inside the room, an officer saw a fan aimed out the open window. Next to the fan was a can of Febreze air freshener.

The officer asked all three men if they had smoked marijuana or if there was any marijuana in the room. The men all said no and denied the officers access to the room to search for marijuana.

The officer asked to talk to the men outside and two of them followed him immediately, but one of the residents went back inside and then came out about 30 seconds later. The first man interviewed said he did not smoke and did not know of any marijuana in the room.

A few minutes later, he told police he smoked earlier in the day, but not in the room, and that a strange man came into the room at approximately 7:45 p.m. with a sandwich bag of marijuana.

Police asked the second man, who said that he had not seen any marijuana in the room and that he did not use marijuana because he preferred alcohol.

The officer asked the third man if the marijuana was the roommate’s and he nodded up and down but said he “”couldn’t do that to him,”” according to the report. He told the officer that the marijuana was stored in a small round metal container. The police asked if he could describe the marijuana, but the third man said he could not, then paused and told the officer that it was good, though.

When the residents allowed police to investigate the room, the officers found a container on the floor. Inside was an object, which the resident immediately identified as a grinder.

Police told the residents that they needed the rest of the marijuana before they left and the other resident lifted up his mattress and pulled out a large metal container. He said it was not his and he did not know how it got there. Police unscrewed the container and found a green leafy substance that smelled like marijuana.

All three students were diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

Police arrested a resident of Pima Residence Hall, 1340 E. First St., for underage drinking and her boyfriend for criminal trespassing at 4:49 a.m. Sept. 9.

Officers responded to the residence hall on a call from the resident assistant who heard the male’s voice in the resident’s room, banging on the wall and heard an object fall to the ground. Previously, the woman reported her boyfriend abusing her.

Police knocked on the door for about two minutes before getting the master key to open the door. When they opened the door, they found the resident and her boyfriend sleeping in separate beds.

One of the officers woke both of them and immediately smelled alcohol. They had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. The officer asked the boyfriend if he knew that he would be arrested for trespassing if found in the residence hall again. He said yes.

The officer then talked to the resident, who said that she had been drinking off campus at a party sponsored by the UA lacrosse team. When police asked why she allowed the boyfriend to return to the dorm, she said, “”Don’t you have a heart? I’m all alone and I need companionship.””

She told the officer that he had not assaulted her that night. Police later cited and released her for lying about being previously diverted to the Dean of Students.

The boyfriend was handcuffed and escorted down the stairwell to the patrol car when he tried to break away from the officers’ grip. He got leverage with his body on a stair and pulled away from police. He rolled down the last five steps, turning 360 degrees. At the bottom of the second floor landing, he began hitting the back of his head on the step and yelling, “”You pushed me down the stairs!””

Police took him outside and transported him to Pima County Jail.

Police were dispatched to Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St., on a medical emergency reference at 2:31 a.m. Sept. 9.

Upon arrival, the officer found a man unconscious and unresponsive in the restroom, covered in vomit. The man’s breath and body smelled of intoxicants. Tucson Fire Department responded to the scene, evaluated him and determined that he needed to be treated for extreme intoxication.

He was transported to University Medical Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave. Later that day, the officer spoke with the man, who said he drank a large amount of alcohol at an unknown place.

The officer cited and released him for underage drinking.
