Arizona men’s basketball freshman guard Allonzo Trier suffered a broken right hand against USC in the 103-101 four-overtime loss and will be out four to six weeks.
The news was first reported by Jason Scheer and Point Guard U, and then confirmed by Arizona Athletics.
“When an injury occurs to one of our players, the first priority is wellbeing,” Arizona head coach Sean Miller said in a statement. “He was playing the best basketball of his young career at Arizona.”
Trier missed two important free throws down the stretch in the fourth overtime and appeared to be holding an aggravated shooting hand.

Trier is currently averaging 14.8 points per game, along with 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists.
“Trier has worked tirelessly every day since he arrived on our campus,” Miller said in a statement. ”Hopefully, he will be able to rejoin us at some point this season and continue his improvement and development as an outstanding player.”
With Elliott Pitts out for unknown personal reasons, the Wildcats’ guards and Sean Miller will have to do some crafty thinking to replace Trier over the next month.
Injuries have already haunted Arizona basketball this season. Kaleb Tarczewski and Ray Smith have faced the worst injuries thus far, but now one must add Trier to the list.
Trier’s shooting hand will not require surgery, according to Point Guard U.
The Wildcats have a difficult matchup coming up at home in McKale Center against Washington, who is undefeated in Pac-12 Conference play.
