Speeding on his street is a problem, Vasquez said.
“”I was trying to protect”” the neighborhood from speeders, he said.
Vasquez, a former Sheriff’s Department reserve deputy, estimated the motorcycle was traveling about 70 mph when he tried to flag it down.
“”The rider lost control and slid into me. He dropped it,”” said Vasquez.
Vasquez said he was knocked cold and awoke in the hospital.
His handgun, which he has a concealed weapons permit to carry, was knocked loose by the impact, Vasquez said.
“”I always have a gun,”” he said.
Vasquez said he had to give up his reserve deputy status when he was elected supervisor because it would have been a conflict of interest.
