The University of Arizona women’s basketball team lost to host No. 10 Stanford 73-46 on Friday.

Down only 9-6 at one point early on, the Wildcats fell into a slump and were down 28-6 before they knew what hit them. Excluding the first quarter, Stanford only outscored Arizona 45-40.

Stanford’s senior guard Karlie Samuelson, senior forward Erica McCall and junior guard Brittany McPhee proved to be a dangerous trio against Arizona. Samuelson had 15 points, 12 of which came from 3-point shots, and 7 assists. McCall and McPhee scored 13 points apiece, with 5 and 6 rebounds, respectively.

Senior forward LaBrittney Jones was the leading scorer for Arizona, with 11 points. Senior guard Malena Washington scored 10 of her own for Arizona as well.

Stanford scored 15 points off of turnovers, compared to only eight by Arizona. Although each team had plenty of turnovers of their own, Stanford’s hustle to get on the ball proved helpful in their win against the Wildcats.

Stanford held Arizona to 32 percent shooting in the game while shooting 49 percent themselves.

This was the first of four California road games for the Wildcats. Arizona will face off against Cal this Sunday at 2 p.m.
