Basketball
Arizona basketball, which will play at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii in December, learned who its first opponent will be in the eight-team tournament this week. The Wildcats will play East Tennessee State and the winner or loser of the Miami, Fla. vs. Hawaii game depending on the result of their own contest.
Every game in the Diamond Head Classic will be televised on the ESPN family of networks.
Football
Rob Waldrop, a defensive tackle for the Wildcats from 1990-1993, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a part of the 2012 class. Waldrop, a consensus All-American in 1992 and 1993 won the Outland Trophy, given to the best interior lineman in the country, the Nagurski Award for being the best defensive player in the country and the United Press International’s Lineman of the Year award while attending Arizona.
Waldrop was drafted in the fifth round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs and played for Canadian Football League’s Memphis Mad Dogs and Toronto Argonauts.

2012 Olympian high jumper and current Wildcat Brigetta Barrett was named the 2012 Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year, the second-straight year she has won the award.
Barrett is a theatre arts major with a 3.51 grade point average. This season, she swept the NCAA high jump competition for the second straight season and at Olympic trials in Eugene, Ore., she earned her ticket to the London Games with a personal best 6-foot-7-inch clearance, which was also a school and meet record.
Barrett was also named a first-team Capital One Academic All-American and a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.
