The Arizona Wildcats hockey team caps off its home schedule with a two-game series against arch-rival Arizona State University. The Wildcats can clinch the Cactus Cup with a win on Friday or Sunday evening.
The Cactus Cup is awarded to the winner of the UA-ASU hockey series. The Wildcats have dominated the series this season with a 4-0 record against the Sun Devils. If the Wildcats prevail, it would be the second-consecutive season they were awarded the Cactus Cup.
“We want Tucson to come to the TCC and show their support this weekend for us,” head coach Chad Berman said. “Playing ASU is always the biggest Tucson hockey event for the entire year, and this is the last chance for Tucson to see the Wildcats as we get ready for a run in the national tournament in March.”
Beating ASU would help Arizona carry momentum into the American Collegiate Hockey Association tournament come March. Friday night’s game is a “White Out,” and Wildcat fans are encouraged to wear all white in support of the team. Sunday’s game is Senior Night.

It is also Arizona hockey’s Alumni Weekend, where Wildcat hockey legends of the past will attend the games and celebrate the history of Arizona hockey.
The No. 6 nationally ranked Wildcats currently hold a record of 25-7 and are one league game win away from winning their first Western Collegiate Hockey League championship. The games this weekend aren’t WCHL contests, but the Wildcats will have an opportunity to claim the championship March 2 or 3 at ASU.
