La Profesia De La Gitana will present a 1930s themed sideshow and fire show to benefit the All Souls Procession. The event will feature live music, a collaborative performance of over thirty performers and a ’30s two-part act with live performers.
“”Regarding La Profecia, it’s definitely an homage to the classic sideshows of the past. The only difference is the technological thread we’re weaving through the show,”” said Adam Cooper-Terán, the video animator for Flam Chen, a pyrotechnic theater group.
The All Souls Procession is a Tucson tradition where members of the community can express loss or grief through artistic expression in order to collaborate, create and inspire the public through the festival. The All Souls Procession is an event that was created in order to serve the purpose of reflecting of the universal experience of death.
This year, the festival will be hosted by Tucson’s own microbrewery, Nimbus Brewery.
During the first part of the sideshow, a freak show, an escape artist, fire show will entertain guests and a virtual sideshow displayed by video.
“”Using the video as a base to present virtual characters or establish environments, adds a new variable to the formula of a sideshow,”” Cooper-Terán said.
Some of the digitally created characters are a mermaid, library of monsters, oddities and aberrations. These characters introduce the main character, Blimpa, the Fat Lady. “”Sideshows don’t usually geek out a video bit, but here we are utilizing the medium for Profecia, and if anything it’ll be something different for Tucson,”” Cooper-Terán said.
The audience is free to walk around during the first part of the show. During the second part of the sideshow, the audience steps away from the midway and can enjoy a behind the scenes aspect of every performance done in the first part of the show.
Nimbus Brewery is located at 3850 E. 44th St., No. 138. The doors open and show starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday, but the fire show will begin around 10:30 p.m. The cost of the event is $10 with appropriate “”1930s sideshow”” or circus costume and $12 with civilian wear.
