Arizona guard Kyle Fogg was named the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a pair of road wins over California and Stanford, commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.
The 6-foot-3, 188-pounder averaged 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and four assists as Arizona became the first Pac-12 team to win at Stanford this season and the first team to win at Cal since the Wildcats’ thrilling triple-overtime win a season ago. Fogg shot 47.8 percent from the field, 61.5 percent from 3-point range and 87.5 percent from the free throw line over the weekend.
Fogg also connected on the go-ahead shot late in Saturday’s win over the then-conference-leading Golden Bears before swatting away a potential game-tying 3 from Cal guard Allen Crabbe. He also scored 10 points in less than four minutes to help Arizona climb out of a 13-point hole.
Fogg is starting to emerge as Arizona’s go-to player in clutch situations after the win against Cal — the first time this season the Wildcats won a game decided in the final minute.
Fogg made an equal impact on defense, recording two blocks and three steals and holding his primary matchup to 28.6 percent shooting from the field. Fogg is averaging 12.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season.
This is Fogg’s first career conference player-of-the-week and the third time this season an Arizona player has picked up the honor after Solomon Hill earned the accolade on Dec. 5, 2011 and Dec. 26, 2011. The Brea, Calif., native is Arizona’s 83rd all-time player of the week recipient.
