The University of Arizona soccer team tied against Pepperdine University 1-1 on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Tari Frahm Rokus Field in Malibu, California.
The Wildcats came into the game 2-1, coming off their first loss of the season to No. 5 University of North Carolina.
It was a back and forth game in the beginning of the first period. Arizona was strong on defense but that energy resulted in Ella Hatteberg receiving a yellow card. Pepperdine then got the first goal in the 29th minute of the match.
The Wildcats continued to play hard even though they were down early. Both teams substituted many players before the first period ended. The Wildcats were still down 1 goal going into halftime.
The second half started off slow with the Wildcats not having any shots on goal, but the team’s intensity was still there. Arizona finally landed a goal made by Nyota Katembo to tie the game. Towards the end of the game, both teams started to play sloppily, getting unnecessary fouls and offsides calls as they both tried to end the deadlock.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie, giving the Wildcats their first tie of the season.
Arizona will be continuing their road adventure on Sunday, Sep. 1, playing against UC Irvine at 1 p.m.
