The University of Arizona women’s soccer team took on University of Houston on the road Sunday, Oct. 13 in Houston. The Wildcats fell to the Cougars 1-0. The Wildcats are now 9-4-2 on the season and 4-3-1 in the Big 12.
Coming off a win against University of Central Florida, the Wildcats were ready to finish their away series on a hot streak. Sunday’s match started off slow, but there was high intensity on both sides of the field.
Houston’s goalie Maggie Manning held the Wildcats scoreless, blocking five shots, four of which came from Arizona’s Nicole Dallin. Arizona’s defense held Houston scoreless for the first half as well and limited the Cougars to only three shots on goal.
Coming out of the second half, the Cougars got their momentum up by laying in a goal in the 53rd minute. The Wildcats continued to fight back, staying aggressive and having five shots on goal following the Cougars’ goal.
The Wildcats could not get past Houston’s defense, ending the game scoreless and losing 1-0. Both teams took 14 shots during the match.
Arizona will be returning to Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium in Tucson to play the University of Kansas on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
