EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon Ducks defeated Arizona football by a score of 41-19. This loss to the Ducks extends the Wildcats’ losing streak to 16 games to put them 0-4 for the 2021 season.

The Wildcats had a promising performance throughout the first three quarters but their turnovers ended and became a huge problem.

“There was a lot of good football that was played tonight, and really excited and proud of the step forward that we took in a lot of areas,” head football coach Jedd Fisch said. “But one of the things that we talk about all the time is before you learn how to win, you have to have to keep from losing.”

Jordan McCloud had decent game even though he threw four-interceptions. He completed 21-of-35 passes for 233 yards and one touchdown. McCloud added another 64 yards on the ground. Arizona’s quarterback trio has thrown nine interceptions in their first four games of the season.

“When you turn the ball over five times and commit nine penalties, what’s going to happen,” Fisch said.

Drake Anderson led the Wildcats in rushing attempts with 21 along with 67 yards and one touchdown. The Wildcats totaled over 200 rushing yards for the first time this season and almost doubled their amount from last week’s game vs. NAU.

“Our guys are becoming more and more comfortable with the scheme, they’re becoming more and more comfortable with overtrying to get accomplished,” Fisch said.

Stanley Berryhill III once again led the Wildcats in receiving yards where he caught five balls for 75 yards. Boobie Curry was active for the second week in a row with four catches for 49 yards.

Arizona’s defense allowed 393 all purpose yards and 185 of those were on the ground. Oregon’s Travis Dye finished the game with 92 yards on just five attempts.

Fisch announced after the game that McCloud will be the Wildcat’s starting quarterback moving forward.

“He was never afraid to throw the football, I’m sure he’s very upset right now, and I hate that for him, but those things happen and we’re gonna grow from it and get better,” Fisch said. “But he’s our best player at that position and that’s why we played him.”

“[Cruz] right now will be the backup until [Plummer’s] shoulder is 100%, and then those two guys will compete,” Fisch said.

For now, the quarterback battle is over but, with this Arizona team, things change fast depending on health and game performances.

Arizona has their bye week in the coming days, but Fisch is still bringing his players in to practice.

“We’re gonna practice Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and then we’re gonna let the guys go get refreshed after their lift on Thursday, and then we’ll bring them back in on Sunday,” Fisch said.

The Wildcats host the No. 24 UCLA Bruins on Oct. 9, at Arizona Stadium, where Fisch and company will look to get the team’s first win on the board.
