Emma McDonough, News Editor
During the fall and summer of 2025, Emma McDonough served as the news desk editor at the Daily Wildcat ahead of studying abroad in Barcelona for the Spring 2026 semester. As a reporter, she primarily works to cover the Associated Students of the University of Arizona. That said, she also has experience with significant feature stories, such as Black History Month at the UA and the consolidation of cultural resource centers. Emma has a double major in Political Science and Journalism, with a minor in Gender and Women’s Studies. She also held an internship with Ballotpedia, a nonprofit organization that seeks to solve a voter information problem, during the Spring 2025 semester. She did extensive research on local political candidates and wrote informational pieces so that voters could make more informed decisions. She currently holds a position at Children’s Hospital Colorado as a writing intern. For this internship, she primarily writes parental information articles (Just Ask Children’s) in addition to more scientific writing on research done by doctors throughout the hospital (Q-Blog). This experience led her to seek out a passion for science journalism. She also works to highlight patient stories of children who underwent extensive treatment at Children’s Hospital Colorado, which is what she finds to be the most meaningful part of her job. In her free time, Emma likes to spend time with her friends, family and dogs. It is her aspiration to pursue journalism full-time in her post-graduate career.
