The Arizona women’s basketball team gained a promising future with the hiring of head coach Niya Butts yesterday, but both Rheya and Rhaya Neabors won’t be part of it.

Both Neabors twins will transfer next semester, Rheya told the Arizona Daily Wildcat yesterday.

Both Neabors, sophomore 6-foot-1 forwards, ended last season suspended for team violations.

Former UA head coach Joan Bonvicini suspended Rhaya before the Oregon State game Jan. 2, and she served the remainder of the year inactive.

Bonvicini later suspended Rheya before the Pacific 10 Conference Tournament opening round March 7.

Rheya said she did not attend Wednesday’s team meeting held by Butts.

After playing in 26 games, Rheya finished the season averaging 8.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

With only 10 games played, Rhaya finished averaging 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

The two have not selected a school, Rheya said.

The Neabors will become the ninth and 10th women’s basketball players to transfer since 2004.
