Have you cut your genitals recently?
A study by the University of California, San Francisco found that pubic hair grooming injuries significantly increased between 2002 and 2010.
According to a survey cited by the “Today Show,” 70-88 percent of women partially or fully remove their pubic hair, and between 58-78 percent of men (both gay and straight) do the same.
Many cite the pornography industry for beginning the trend in the 1990s, when women started appearing in sex films without hair down there. Men, on the other hand, were encouraged to trim by the female approval that comes from a manscaped pubic region, according to Cosmopolitan.
But, while a landing strip may be sexually appealing, there is a biological reason for pubic hair. Pubic hair helps protect your genital region from infections, rashes and even acne. It also reduces the external friction caused by sexual intercourse, which could make sex more enjoyable, according to Lauren Streicher, an assistant clinical professor at Northwestern University’s Feinburg School of Medicine.
But no matter what, if you’re thinking of taking a razor down there to impress that boy or girl at the party, make sure you keep a steady hand. Nothing is more of a turn off than a scabby pubic region, no matter how dark the room is.
Dirty Bingo
At North Carolina State University, the Union Activities Board came under fire after spending $304.64 from student fees on prizes for the “Dirty Bingo: Taking the Dirt out of Sex Education and Healthy Sexuality” event on Tuesday. Prizes included butt plugs, dildos and even the popular novel “Fifty Shades of Gray.”
The purpose of the event was to “find an innovative and entertaining way to talk about sex and sex education, particularly on a college campus, which deviates [from] the norm and expected,” according to the Union Activities Board.
However, according to the Facebook event, “UAB does not have a bingo license and therefore cannot give out prizes with a monetary value of more than $10.” Instead, it will give out T-shirts and gift cards. You can’t say they didn’t try.
