The Daily Wildcat’s Sports Desk gave their predictions ahead of the Arizona football team’s game against Washington State University on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Ryan Wohl: Arizona losses 31-28
Arizona is coming into this game fresh off their best win since 2017. They are still 4-point underdogs against Washington State on Saturday. The Cougars have lost two close games to the University of Utah and the University of Oregon, which Arizona was blown out in both contests.
I think Arizona will lose this game and finish the season with a win in the territorial cup on Black Friday against ASU. Jayden de Laura has looked great at times this season but has failed to put up multiple great games in a row. If Arizona goes 1-2 in their final two weeks, they will finish 5-7 on the season, which is still a huge improvement from their 1-11 season a year ago.
Delaney Penn: Arizona wins 32-17
I think Arizona will beat Washington State, especially because they are coming off a big win at UCLA. Head coach Jedd Fisch is going to be extremely fired up and want to continue the winning streak. There are two games left to get to .500. De Laura will hopefully come into the game wanting to prove to his old school that he made the right transfer. He says it’s personal. He’s on a roll, so I wouldn’t bet against him.
Jason Dayee: Arizona wins 39-30
My prediction for the Saturday, Nov. 19, game of Arizona versus Washington State is that the Wildcats will defeat the Cougars to get to 5-6 on the season. Arizona is coming off a very impressive win on the road against UCLA, who is currently ranked No. 4 in the Pac-12, while Arizona has had a small rise to No. 8 in the conference. The Wildcats hope to continue building off last week’s win by returning home and acquiring their first back-to-back win all year. Arizona’s offense has been great all season long, so in this game, the team will be leaning more so on them, along with the energy from their home crowd to bring this one home.
I believe in this match-up Arizona will come out looking to score quickly and score often. Washington State will not be able to match Arizona’s air attack, but the Cougars will be tough to stop in their run game. At halftime, Arizona will lead 24-17, but in the second half the Wildcats will come out sluggish, give up multiple big runs to the Cougars and trail entering the fourth quarter of the game. However, late in the game, de Laura will make a few clutch plays to pull Arizona out with the win.
Nathaniel Levin: Arizona losses 35-24
Arizona is coming off a stellar performance last weekend, which saw the Wildcats knock off No. 4 UCLA on the road. The Wildcats enter their match-up against the Washington State with a record of 4-6, and they must win their final two match-ups if they want to become bowl eligible. Arizona quarterback de Laura will be facing his former squad and is hoping to help the Wildcats snap their two-game skid against Washington State. If Arizona’s defense can perform as they did against UCLA, they have a real shot at pulling off the victory. Unfortunately, Arizona’s defense has proven to be inconsistent this season, giving up 37.2 points per game. I think this game may be close, but Washington State will ultimately pull away and win on the road.
Alex Poor: Arizona wins 38-28
Arizona is coming off a big win last Saturday against UCLA, and I believe they will carry that momentum into this match-up against Washington State. De Laura, facing his former team from a year ago, will be highly motivated, and I think will show-out once again. The defense stepped it up last week as well with three sacks. Hopefully, they can keep it up on Saturday.
