Arizona junior swimmer Whitney Myers added the possibility of another prestigious award to an already outstanding season when she was nominated as a finalist for the 2005-06 Swimming and Diving Honda Sports Award.
Myers swam on two championship relay teams and won two individual victories in Arizona’s third-place finish at the NCAA Championships last week. The 400-meter free relay set school, pool and NCAA records.
The Honda Award goes to the top woman collegian in the sport, and Myers is part of a final foursome that includes a pair of swimmers from Georgia, who finished second behind Auburn at the NCAAs.
The winner of the award will be announced later this month, and will become eligible to win the Honda-Broderick Cup, which is awarded to the nation’s women’s collegiate athlete of the year.
