The No. 8 Arizona women’s golf team will wrap up its fall season when it competes in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown today through Wednesday.
The Wildcats will be shooting for their first win of the season, and this Nevada-Las Vegas-hosted tournament may be their best chance to accomplish that.
In three of the team’s previous four tournaments, at least half the field has consisted of teams ranked in the nation’s top 25, but in this tournament only seven of the 18 teams are ranked and Arizona is the only one in the top 10.
Another factor that could be in the Wildcats’ favor involves the course, the Angel Park Mountain Golf Course. The par-71 6,277-yard desert-style course sets up very similar to the courses the team practices on in Tucson.
Arizona finished ninth in this tournament a year ago, with senior Alison Walshe – who is aiming for her fifth consecutive top 10 finish – taking fifth individually.
The Wildcats go on a 102-day break following this tournament.
