Nacho Average DUI
University of Arizona Police Department officers noticed a car driving erratically in a Taco Bell parking lot at 2 a.m. on July 17 before crashing into the cement median that separates southbound and northbound traffic on Campbell Avenue. Officers initiated their emergency lights and pulled over the car, which came to a stop in the middle of a side street. Upon inspection, officers saw that the front airbags had deployed. Officers asked the four women in the car if they needed medical attention, but all declined. The driver, who smelled strongly of intoxicants, was asked to exit the vehicle after she was observed having bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. She stumbled as she exited the vehicle and there was vomit on her clothing. Officers then conducted a standard field sobriety test. They asked the driver to stand on one leg. She failed to do so several times, telling officers ,“It’s impossible,” and saying, “You asked me to do this for like five minutes.” At this point, the driver was given an initial Breathalyzer, blowing a .157 blood alcohol content. Officers read the driver her Miranda rights and charged her with Driving Under the Influence.
Scooter Looter
UAPD responded to a report of a stolen Vespa scooter from the Highland Avenue Parking Garage on July 17. The owner of the Vespa said that he had left the scooter in a motorcycle parking place over the weekend and discovered it missing. The owner said that the only person who had keys to the Vespa was his ex-wife, and that he suspected that she had taken it. Officers contacted the owner’s ex-wife to see if she knew the whereabouts of the scooter, but she denied any knowledge of it. Officers asked the owner if he had any disgruntled co-workers, or if anyone had a grudge against him, but the owner said he did not. The vehicle was reported stolen by UAPD.
