Heading into round three of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Arizona’s men’s tennis team has one survivor.
Senior Claudio Christen advanced yesterday after a hard-fought win over Mariusz Adamski of Wake Forest, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3).

For Bruno to come within points of winning that match was a good accomplishment for him.

qualifying round, UA head coach Tad Berkowitz said this year’s progress is a major accomplishment.
Today, Christen will face blue-chip freshman Tyler Hochwalt of Florida, one of the top first-year athletes in the country.
Arizona freshman Jay Goldman fell to Milan Mihailovic of Texas 6-3, 6-0 yesterday after playing through a massive foot blister. Goldman barely finished the match, only to find his sock soaked in blood, Berkowitz said.
Arizona senior Bruno Alcala also fell in the second round of qualifying play, losing to Kean Feeder of Boise State 6-3, 6-2. Feeder competed on the Association of Tennis Professionals tour as an amateur last year.
“”For Bruno to come within points of winning that match was a good accomplishment for him,”” Berkowitz said.
Arizona sends two pairs into today’s first-round doubles qualifying event. Goldman will pair up with Christen, and Alcala and Zimmer will play together.
