The Daily Wildcat

    This Day at the UA

On Sept. 17, 1980, the Arizona Daily Wildcat reported that a housewife visiting the UA had rescued a hurt rooster near McKale Center, but then found that both the Humane Society and Pima County Animal Control refused to accept the animal. The woman said her landlord would not allow her to keep the rooster. Finally a UA groundskeeper who lived outside the city limits agreed to adopt the bird.

Also that day, the Wildcat reviewed Van Halen’s performance at the Tucson Community Center (now the Tucson Convention Center). While the Wildcat’s reviewer found that bassist Michael Anthony “”occasionally seemed more interested in making noise than playing the songs,”” he praised the “”searing”” sound of Eddie Van Halen’s “”self-made guitar.””
