    UMC in top-100 hospital list

    The University Medical Center is among the top 100 hospitals in the nation for cardiovascular care, according to the 2006 Solucient 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success report released yesterday. The top hospitals are compiled based on eight factors, including mortality, length of stay and cost. The hospitals are ranked in no particular order.

    Say ‘hello’ to World Hello Day

    Started in 1971 in response to conflict in the Middle East, the purpose of World Hello Day is to greet 10 strangers to demonstrate that personal communication preserves peace.

    Men losing friends

    Non-erotic male companionship with other males is on the decline in North America, according to a study in the American Sociological Review. Conducted by sociologists at the UA and Duke University, the study found that men have one-third fewer close friends than they did two decades ago – about 2.08 today compared to 2.94 in 1985. The study pointed to the Internet as the primary detractor from friends.
