Starting quarterback Grant Gunnell, wide receiver Boobie Curry enter transfer portal
December 17, 2020
Arizona starting quarterback Grant Gunnell has entered the transfer portal, according to Matt Moreno of GOAZCATS. Wide receiver Boobie Curry is also entering his name into the portal, according to Michael Lev of the Arizona Daily Star.
Gunnell and Curry were two of Arizona’s highest-rated recruits coming out of high school and have had a very close relationship since they committed to Arizona together back in 2019.
Curry was projected to have a breakout season this year but struggled to find his rhythm after Gunnell’s injury, catching just 16 balls for 157 yards in his two years with the team.

Gunnell is a very talented QB that hurt his shoulder in the Wildcats’ third game of the season against UCLA. In his first two games of the season, he played well by throwing for over 250 yards and three touchdowns in each game. Former head coach Kevin Sumlin started him in the Territorial Cup last week where they lost 70-7 to Arizona State and never had a chance from the beginning.
Last season as a freshman, Gunnell shared time with former quarterback Khalil Tate and never really got a chance to lead the offense by himself. Coming into Tucson, he was only a three-star recruit but seemed like he had much more upside than talent evaluators wanted to give him.
After last week, where athletic director Dave Heeke fired Sumlin, multiple talented players have either decommitted from the 2021 recruiting class or are entering the transfer portal alongside Gunnell, Curry and Stanley Berryhill III.
This is a developing story and will be updated with more information when it arrives.
