Arizona men’s basketball will open up the season ranked No. 2. That’s the highest preseason ranking for the Wildcats since 2002-03.

Arizona soccer forward Gabi Stoian scored three goals over the weekend at Colorado and Utah. She has 13 goals this year and is second in the Pac-12 Conference in points and is third in goals.

Arizona football linebacker Scooby Wright has won Pac-12 defensive player of the week twice in a row. He is the only player in the country in the top 20 in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks and forced fumbles.

Last week, the San Francisco Giants won their third World Series in the last five years. The Giants have now won eight world championships, with five coming when they were the New York Giants.


Arizona football lost its second game of its last three on Saturday night at UCLA, 17-7. After reaching the top 10, the Wildcats are a loss away from being unranked.

Arizona hockey lost two of three games last weekend to the Colorado schools. The Wildcats had a six-game losing streak and lost eight of their last nine before beating Colorado 3-1 on Saturday.

Maryland football captains refused to shake the hands of the Penn State captains, and a fight ensued. Terp receiver Stefon Diggs was suspended one game by the Big Ten.

The NBA fined Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Kevin Martin $15,000 for making an obscene gesture on Saturday night. Martin motioned like he was juggling giant testicles after making a 3-pointer. Somewhere, Sam Cassell is smiling.
