There’s a lot of golf left. I expect more from us (today).
– Shelly Haywood, UA head coach
1-under 287.
“”We played well on the back nine,”” said UA head coach Shelly Haywood. “”We missed some opportunities early, but, overall, I’m pleased (with our effort).””
Freshman Alejandra Llaneza led the way for the Wildcats, finishing fourth at 3-under 69.
“”It just keeps getting better,”” Haywood said of Llaneza’s play. “”She gained a lot of confidence from the tournament at Stanford (on Oct. 19-21), and she played with a lot of confidence today.””
Haywood said a special appearance may have fueled Llaneza’s best round of the year.
“”Her parents surprised her on the first hole,”” she said. “”They came all the way from Mexico City, and Alejandra knew nothing about it. I think she played well because of that.””
The tournament resumes today on the Angel Park Mountain Golf Course in Las Vegas.
“”We have a long way to go,”” Haywood said. “”There’s a lot of golf left. I expect more from us (today).””
