Arizona juniors Claudio Christen and Bruno Alcala and sophomore Peter Zimmer were eliminated yesterday on the first day of the qualifying round at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
The Wildcats will now have to look to their doubles team, which is composed of Christen and Zimmer, for a victory today.
Zimmer, who survived the pre-qualifying round over the weekend, lost last night to Roy Sichel, a junior from UNC Charlotte, 6-4, 6-1. The loss concluded his three-match winning streak that allowed him to reach the qualifying round.
Christen, who was pre-selected for the qualifying round, lost in his first match of the tournament to Baylor freshman Denes Lukacs in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Alcala lost in the first round of pre-qualifying to Lucques Maasdorp of Tulsa 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-2.
In the doubles qualifying event today, Christen and Zimmer will face freshman pair Blake Muller and Richard Wire of Stanford, who both lost in the qualifying round of the singles event yesterday.
