After a slow start for the Arizona defense, the UCLA Bruins led 21-10 at the half.
Arizona opened the game with a 12-play drive that resulted in a 44-yard field goal by senior kicker Jake Smith.
UCLA quickly responded however, with a 66-yard touchdown pass in their opening play of the drive to take a 7-3 lead.
The quarter remained relatively quiet, until UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley rushed 15 yards into the end zone to give the Bruins a 14-3 lead. The Wildcats defense struggled throughout the first quarter to get a handle on the UCLA’s offense. Junior safety Tra’Mayne Bondurant led the defense in tackles for the quarter with three.
Arizona’s defense kicked into gear at the start of the second quarter.
After UCLA attempted a fake punt, failed and was flagged for having ineligible receivers on the field, Arizona received possession at the UCLA 25 yard line.
Junior running back Ka’Deem Carey fought his way into the end zone with for a four-yard rushing touchdown. This was Carey’s 11th rushing touchdown of the season.
The Bruins made it 21-10 right before the half ended with a four-yard touchdown pass.
Carey had 58 yards on 16 carries and senior quarterback B.J. Denker had 66 yards passing, going 9-for-16.
