“On the spot: Mihai Samartinean, history sophomore”

    Wow, where’s the name from?

    Romania. I was born there.

Does it have a special meaning?

Mihai means – well – it’s translated into Michael in English.

What’s your favorite historical event in – I don’t know – recent history.

    Recent history? How recent, like…

    Okay, maybe all of history.

I’d say, um, I was a big fan of the American Revolution. I just liked the principles and stuff they were fighting for.

    Did you see “”The Patriot””?

    I did see “”The Patriot.””

If you could have survived one of the greatest disasters in history, say, like the Titanic or the San Francisco earthquake, which one do you think would be the coolest story?

Um, well I think the Titanic got the most publicity of any…

    It did get a movie.

Yeah, it’s got like the biggest movie of all time. But, I don’t know, I don’t think it’d be that cool just to live off a boat. Maybe one of the earthquakes, that’d be cooler.

It seems like earthquakes don’t get a whole lot of their own movies.

I don’t know any earthquake movies.

I know. I think there’s an old movie about it called “”San Francisco.””

    I’ve never heard of it.

See? Exactly! You’ve never heard of it.

    (Laughs)
