Teen arrested in fatal drive-by shooting

An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting earlier this week.

Patrick Andrew Bentley was arrested Wednesday and is being held at the Yakima County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to a news release issued today by the Yakima Police Department.

The news release did not indicate where or at what time Andrew was arrested. Police did, however, say they are still seeking to identify the driver of the car from which the shots were fired.

Alejandro Baldavinos, 27, died Monday night after being shot in the chest while walking with two others, including his brother, in the area of Willow Street and North Fifth Avenue. The brother, Luis Baldavinos, 18, was shot in the pelvis and was treated and released from a local hospital. The third person was not injured.

Earlier reports from police said the three had exchanged words with an occupant of a car before someone in the vehicle opened fire. Multiple shots were fired from a semi-automatic handgun, police said.

Baldavinos’ death marked the first homicide of the year within the city of Yakima.
