The Arizona women’s volleyball team struggled against the visiting Huskies on Saturday at McKale Center. The Wildcats dropped the match 1-3 (25-16, 25-23, 18-25, 25-23).
“I’m disappointed we lost,” head coach Dave Rubio said. “I think Washington came and did what they had to do and they executed a little better in the tight matches.” Rubio said the team was uncharacteristically poor at passing and serving against Washington.
Sophomore outside hitter Madi Kingdon led the Wildcats with 15 kills. Arizona fell short on the net despite a scrappy defense in the backcourt.
“I think that on the out of system set we just need to work on having a stronger block when there’s one hitter going up to the block,” Kingdon said.
The Huskies put up big hitting numbers despite 15 service errors, and proved to be very efficient despite long rallies.
“It’s just me having trust in my hitters and making sure I’m running the right plays,” junior setter Chanel Brown said.
The Wildcats gave up solid leads in both the second and third sets but came back just in time to win the set and take the match to a fourth set.
Arizona takes on the Stanford Cardinal on Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at home for another Pac-12 showdown.
