Arizona women’s basketball center Suzy Bofia will redshirt the upcoming 2007-08 season because she is pregnant, head coach Joan Bonvicini announced Tuesday.
“”Suzy Bofia will take time off during the upcoming season to give birth to her first child,”” Bonvicini said in a press release. “”She is a valued member of our team, and we wish Suzy and her husband Louis nothing but the best in becoming new parents. She has the full support of her team and the university, and we can’t wait to have her back on the court.””
The baby is due in December, according to a source close to the team.
Bofia’s twin sister, Beatrice, sat out last season as a redshirt after she tore an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during warmups of the Red-Blue Game Nov. 1.
Suzy, a 6-foot-6 native of Cameroon, Africa played in 28 games last season as a junior, starting nine games. She averaged 4.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game.
