Strasburg man found dead in girlfriend’s car

Effingham city police are not ruling out foul play in the death of a 28-year-old Strasburg man found dead in his girlfriend’s car late Saturday afternoon.

Eronn B. Price was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m. Saturday by Effingham County Coroner Leigh Hammer in a parking lot at 708 N. Third St. Effingham firefighters found Price’s body lying across the front seat of a car belonging to his girlfriend. Neither Hammer nor Effingham police would identify the girlfriend.

Hammer said Price did not receive any obvious wounds. An autopsy was performed Monday in Springfield. Hammer said she won’t release an official cause or manner of death until toxicology reports are received.

Effingham police Detective Todd Ebbert said police are making no assumptions in Price’s death until they receive more information.

“”It’s just a standard death investigation right now,”” Ebbert said.”” We just have to see where it leads to. Nothing has been ruled in or out.””

Effingham firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at Midwest Toppers. Price’s body was found in the Midwest Toppers parking lot as firefighters were getting ready to leave the fire scene.

City firefighters had been dispatched to the scene at 3:54 p.m. Saturday. Storage outside the rear of the building was burning when firefighters arrived. Burning items included truck covers, bed caps and bed liners.

Chief Joe Holomy stated in a news release firefighters used a 1 3/4-inch attack line to knock down the fire at 4:02 p.m.

Ameren Illinois was called to check electrical lines located above the fire. Fire crews remained on the scene overhauling the remaining outside storage and checking the inside of the building for the possibility of hidden fires. There was no fire damage to the building.

The fire was blamed on unattended leaf burning from neighboring property. Damage estimates are yet to be determined and there were no injuries.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 5:14 p.m., about the time the body was found.
