Arizona defensive end Louis Holmes pleaded guilty to criminal damage Thursday at Scottsdale Municipal Court and must complete an anger-management class in the next six months.

Holmes, 22, was involved in a fight July 1 at the Pussycat Lounge in Scottsdale. He punched someone and tore a doorman’s blazer near closing time at the bar, according to police reports.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pound lineman was asked to leave after knocking out a customer with one blow to the face.

Holmes reportedly told police he was defending himself.

The plea was part of a deal with city prosecutors, and a second charge of disorderly conduct against Holmes will be dropped. All charges will be dropped entirely if Holmes completes the course, according to court reports.

It will be Holmes’ second diversion process in the last 18 months. He was arrested on similar charges in April 2005 and charges were dropped when he completed the other course.

Despite Holmes’s history of criminal damage, UA head coach Mike Stoops said he will not suspend his star defender and hopes the event was an “”isolated incidence.””

“”I will keep any disciplinary action between us,”” Stoops said.
