The Arizona club hockey team appeared to have a win that could turn its season around Friday night after putting a 6-0 beating on Weber State at the Tucson Convention Center.

After the game, UA head coach Leo Golembiewski said that in order to get the two-game sweep, the team needed to wake up the next day and prepare like professionals by getting a good night’s sleep, waking up to a good breakfast and getting mentally prepared.

“”It was pretty obvious, in the locker room before the game, that people were taking this team for granted,”” said senior goaltender Nick Boddy. “”Everyone should be embarrassed.””

In the third period of Saturday’s game the Icecats collapsed after playing well in the first two periods.

With the score tied 1-1 in the third period, Weber State came out strong: barely two minutes into the final stanza, Weber State forward David Lorenzon scored on a put-back in front of the net. Then, just more than a minute and a half later, Weber State forward Ian Soldano scored to give his side a comfortable 3-1 lead.

“”We got lazy and we didn’t get the puck out of the zone,”” Golembiewski said of the third period collapse.

After scoring six goals the night before, the Icecats were only able to score one goal on Saturday, which came in the first period by defenseman Austin Capabianco during a scrum in the front of the net.

With the loss Arizona (4-8-1) has equaled last season’s loss total in just the first thirteen games of the season.

“”We weren’t mentally sharp the whole game. … You must prepare yourself for any type of sporting event,”” Golembiewski said. “”We just didn’t get it done.””
