Last day to register to vote

Today is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 7 election. Voter registration efforts will take place all day on the UA Mall. Students can also register to vote online at http://servicearizona.com/webapp/evoter. The deadline to register is midnight.

Columbus Day

The second Monday of October marks Columbus Day, which has become controversial in recent years. Some reject the celebration, casting doubt on Christopher Columbus’ achievements, while others argue he was the founder of modern America in 1492. Post offices and other county, state and federal offices are closed today.

Cola leads to brittle bones

Drinking cola regularly may lead to brittle bones and higher chances of osteoporosis in women, according to a study in the October issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The study of 2,500 women found that participants who drank four or more colas per week had lower bone mineral density than non-cola drinkers.
