    “2 dead, at least 14 more shot in overnight violence “

     

    Two men are dead and at least 14 people were wounded in separate shootings around the city late Saturday and early this morning.

    At 9:25 p.m. Saturday, police received an anonymous call about a man found inside a vacant property in the 0-100 block of East 101st Place, according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

    Police found the unidentified man who is believed to be in his 30s dead inside the living room of the property with trauma to his head, Perez said. An autopsy conducted today found that the man had been shot in the head and the Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide.

    The second fatality occured nearly eight hours later when Cedric Allen of the 20100 block of Arroyo in south suburban Lynwood was shot in the South Austin neighborhood, officials said. Allen, 44, was shot multiple times about 5:39 a.m. on the 300 block of South Lavergne Avenue, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at6:15 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

    In between the fatal shootings, a dozen other people were injured in other shootings, police said.

    About 9:40 p.m. in West Garfield Park, a woman walked into a fire station in the 4100 block of West West End Avenue with a gunshot wound to her knee, according to a release from police News Affairs. The woman did not give details about the shooting and was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, a release said.

    At 10:43 p.m. in Logan Square, two men were shot in the abdomen in the 3500 block of West Medill Avenue, a release said. No other details were immediately available.

    At 10:55 p.m. in the South Chicago neighborhood, an 18-year-old man was shot in the lower back in the 3000 block of East 79th Place. The man was standing on a porch when several people approached on foot and fired shots at him. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, a release said.

    At 11:08 p.m. in Stony Island Park, a man was shot multiple times in the 1600 block of East 86th Place, police said. He suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and leg and was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

    At 11:24 p.m. in Washington Park, a 24-year-old man was shot in the cheek in the 5800 block of South Wabash Avenue, a release said. The man was drunk and has gang ties, police said. He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was listed in stable condition.

    At 12:32 a.m. in Englewood, a 31-year-old man was shot in an alley in the 6300 block of South Morgan Street. An attacker approached the man and shot him in the lower back, according to police.

    At 12:58 a.m. in the South Chicago neighborhood, a 30-year-old man was walking in the 8800 block of South Exchange Avenue when shots were fired from a vehicle, striking him, a release said. He suffered a gunshot wound to his left ankle and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

    At 1:28 a.m. in Englewood, a 44-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle in the 100 block of West 70th Street when he was shot, a release said. The man was talking to a friend when a bullet came through the window and struck him in the head, police said. No one else was injured. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

    At 1:43 a.m. in the South Austin neighborhood, a 20-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the 4900 block of West Quincy Street. The man was initially taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, but was transferred to Stroger, a release said.

    About 1:50 a.m., a man was shot in the leg near the intersection of West Argyle Street and North Marine Drive in the Margate Park neighborhood on the North Side, according to police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro. The man was taken in good condition to Weiss Memorial Hospital, he said.

    A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg on the 3800 block of West Madision Street about 2:29 a.m., police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition and is expected to survive, police said.

    At 2:46 a.m. in West Garfield Park, a 34-year-old man and 29-year-old woman were shot as they were sitting in car in the 4700 block of West West End Avenue, a release said. A vehicle pulled alongside them and fired shots, hitting both. The man was shot in the leg and the woman suffered a gunshot wound to her abdomen. Both were taken to Stroger, in good and serious condition, respectively.

    No one was in custody for any of the shootings and area detectives were investigating.
