Children hold their goats in Yemen on March 8, 2023. With the war and the deteriorating economic situation, many people resort to ranching, which creates a dynamic of self-sufficiency and coexistence.

Al Jisr Collective hosts a monthly photo magazine. The March project focuses on “pets.” Students from Yemen and Arizona created several photo series depicting different kinds of pets that may be found in people’s homes or communities.

These photos not only show the types of animals people in each respective country may have as pets, but they also illustrate what makes these animals important to their owners and how society views them. Students from both countries submitted dozens of beautiful photos with important stories behind each one.
