The Arizona gymnastics team scored a 196.475 at the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad in West Valley City, Utah on Friday, Jan. 12,. Arizona scored its highest season-opening score against Boise State University (196.250), the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (195.875) and the University of North Carolina (195.150). Alysen Fears won all-around with a 39.250 score.
The meet was formatted with six gymnasts per team on each apparatus. The teams would rotate in Olympic order following; vault, bars, beam and floor. The lowest score in the meet would get dropped keeping the highest score possible. Two judges scored the averages.
Vault:
The Wildcats performed on vault for their first rotation. Arizona earned a total score of 49.00. Malia Hargrove received the highest score with a 9.90. Fears earned a 9.825. Ainsley Greever received a 9.775. Abigayle Martin scored a 9.75 and Emma Strom earned a 9.75. After the first rotation, Boise State placed first with a score of 49.225. Arizona placed second with 49.000, North Carolina scored 48.850 and Nebraska 48.500.
Uneven bars:
Arizona scored a 49.050 on bars in its second rotation. Both Fears and Martin scored a 9.825 while Hargrove, Bailey McCabe and Emily Mueller all scored a 9.80. At the end of the second rotation, Arizona tied with Boise State.
Balance beam:
In the third rotation, Arizona scored a 49.025 on the beam. Caroline Herry led the team with a 9.875. The scores followed up with Martin scoring a 9.825, Elena Deets with a 9.80, Mueller earning a 9.775 and Fears scoring a 9.75. After the third rotation, Boise State stayed in first place (147.475), Arizona in second (147.075), Nebraska in third (146.850) and North Carolina in last (146.550).
Floor:
The Wildcats finished strong with a 49.400 in floor to win the meet. Mueller earned a 9.925, tying with the best score in her career. Hargrove and Herry both scored 9.90s. Fears scored a 9.85 while Deets and Strom each acquired 9.825s.

Looking ahead:
The Arizona gymnastics team will host its first home meet on Sunday, Jan. 21, in McKale Center against Sacramento State University.
