The University of Arizona Police Department notified the campus community of an armed robbery that took place near the intersection of Park Avenue and Speedway Boulevard in the early hours of Sunday morning.
UAPD sent out the first UAlert at 2:02 a.m., and it said that the Tucson Police Department was investigating an armed robbery at the major cross streets on the north end of campus near the high-rise apartments where a large portion of the UA student body lives.
11 minutes later, another UAlert was sent out with descriptions of the suspect. According to the emergency notification, the suspect was a “Hispanic male, 20-30 years of age.” He left the scene wearing a blue hoodie, grey sweats and a grey face mask. He was on a silver bike.
UAlerts continued for the next 30 minutes. A notification sent at 2:47 a.m. said that the incident seemed to be isolated, and that while TPD was investigating the robbery, there was “no ongoing threat to the campus community.”
UAPD directed all those affected by the incident to resources on the UA Incidents page, including Counseling & Psych Services, Life & Work Connections and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
